Joining steps

What families should expect from recruitment to rehearsals.

1. Recruitment day

Near the end of Term 3 or start of Term 4, Year 2 students hear a band concert and try each band instrument with tutors.

2. Instrument preferences

Students bring home their preferred instruments. Families should discuss all three choices before submitting the expression of interest.

3. Balanced offers

The program offers instruments from the preferences where possible, while balancing the whole band so every section can function.

4. Lessons and rehearsals

Successful students begin regular rehearsals and usually arrange private lessons through an on-site or approved tutor.

Before choosing preferences

Please ensure you are aware of the style of music our school band plays, and have explored all of the instruments we offer. We get a lot of interest for bass guitar and percussion, but please note that we are not a rock band.

It is important that families are comfortable with all three instrument preferences. The program tries to match preferences where possible, but the band also needs balanced sections.
