Hornsby North Public School Band Program

Welcome to the Hornsby North Public School Band Program! Our band program is one of the most successful and rewarding extra-curricular activities at our school. We have many bands that cater for different styles and students of different levels and abilities. Our bands perform regularly at school events, community functions, and band festivals, where they have received numerous awards and recognition. Our band program also provides professional instrumental tuition for students. Joining our band program is a great way to develop your musical skills, make new friends, and have fun!

Wind Ensemble, Big Band & Jazz Ensemble Intensive Day

Wind Ensemble, Big Band &ย Jazz Ensemble will have their first band event of the year, an Intensive Day, on April 6th, 2025. On this day, not only will students participate in rehearsals, but they will also go off with the rest of their section to get more targeted tutalige from one of our professional tutors.

Big Band and Jazz Ensemble will be up first, and will need to arrive at the school hall at 8:30am. Please do not arrive any earlier. Jazz Ensemble students will need to be picked up at 11:00am.

Wind Ensemble students not in Big Band will need to arrive at 1:00pm. Please do not arrive any earlier. All Wind Ensemble students will need to be picked up at 5:00pm.

As part of this Intensive Day, both Big Band and Wind Ensemble will be recording a video to be submitted to The Arts Unit, to audition for their Instrumental Festivals as a featured item, at either the Sydney Opera House or Sydney Town Hall. Both Big Band and Windย Ensemble were successful in this audition in 2023.

Our Intensive Day will cost $100 each for Wind Ensemble and Big Band, and $50 for Jazz Ensemble, to cover the cost of our conductors and expert tutors.

CRU Galston Gorge

A 2-night, 3-day camp held at CRU Galston Gorge, where students will be in rehearsals and tutorials with professional music tutors. Much of our musical growth and maturing happens at this camp.

The Australian School Band and Orchestra Festival is one of the largest school band festivals in the country. It is non-competitive, with schools (instead of receiving 1st, 2nd, etc.) receiving Gold, Silver, or Bronze awards based on their ability in their section. This event will be held at Knox Grammar.

Hornsby North Public School has been hosting the Hornsby North Band Festival for more than 10 years, and it continues to be an incredibly popular band festival. Bands receive adjudication from two respected band professionals and are graded as either Highly Commended, Credit, Distinction, or High Distinction. A band from each section will be recognized with an award, and a school or band that demonstrated particular excellence over the course of the day will be presented with the Capaldo Award.
